Change the conversation to- Yes I Can!
Attitude is fundamental to my success in both business and life. Those who know me know that I will always find a way
I just returned from a family holiday to NZ and apart from the obvious enjoyment you get from a relaxing holiday something else really struck me about NZ that I really connected with.
I felt there was a drastic difference in attitudes between what I experienced day to day in business and day to day life in Australia compared to what I experienced in the three weeks travelling around New Zealand.
In NZ I experienced a real ‘can do’ attitude and a common sense approach to making things happen. When someone comes up with a new and innovative idea, there seems to be a collaborative approach to find a way to say YES WE CAN. This was really refreshing. My experience in Australia in recent times is very different and I believe its getting worse. When I hear or see someone with a new idea there seems to be an attitude and a line of doubters ready and waiting to tell you NO YOU CAN’T.
A picture of kids swimming off the steps of Auckland harbour with a safe net and an observer. The other is a simple pop up library using a disused container free for anyone to come and relax and read a book. These are just two of many many ideas that will probably never happen in Sydney.
Wouldn’t it be great if we could take a dip into Sydney harbour off the side of the Opera House? Or god forbid experience a controlled harness jump off our centre point tower!
In over 25 years of experience in business which took me from start up with not a cent to my name to my now many successful business ventures and stable companies experiencing ongoing success. I always strive to have an attitude- YES I CAN. I try to instil this same attitude into all my employees and all the people I mentor.
This attitude is fundamental to my success in both business and life. Those who know me know that I will always find a way.
I think this is a great lesson for everyone as you start your year off. My advice would be if you have a great idea and you are having conversations of doubt or people are doubting you or finding a way to say NO YOU CAN’T, its very simple.
Change the conversation to – YES I CAN!
